Introduction Celebrated as ancestor of the legendary Jaguar, the series of Swallow bodied cars created by (Sir) William Lyons in the late 1920s and early 1930s provided his Swallow Company with its entrée into the motor industry and his own first steps on the road to fame and fortune. These early works of the maestro were built in a number of body styles and mounted on a variety of proprietary chassis and, uniquely for a coachbuilder, were sold as a complete car through a network of Swallow’s own distributors and dealers. It is therefore appropriate that the Swallow Register should bring together all of these attractive cars within a single association. A brief history of the Register The Register was founded in 1967 by Donald A Doughty as the Austin Swallow Register. His purpose was to trace and record details of all surviving Swallow bodied Austin Sevens and to assist and encourage, through the medium of a regular newsletter and contacts between owners, their preservation and restoration. Donald’s efforts were remarkably successful and over a period of years 147 Austin Swallows were traced and recorded, and many restored to original/showroom condition. In mid-2013 the Register’s name was changed to the Swallow Register and its scope extended to include all Swallow bodied cars on other makes of chassis. What we are and what we do The Swallow Register is not a club as such, but a private, independent Register run by enthusiasts (no committees/no politics). The Register’s prime objectives are :-
To promote interest in, and knowledge of, the Swallow marque
To assist in the preservation and restoration of all Swallow bodied cars
To maintain and periodically distribute a detailed Register of all surviving Swallow cars and their owners, enabling easy contact with other owners
To publish a regular newsletter
To organise an annual all-models Swallow rally where owners can compete for trophies and awards
To provide help and advice on originality in respect of individual cars
To provide historical information to owners in respect of individual cars (where records exist)
To distribute the A7CA quarterly Magazine of The Austin Seven (if required and at extra cost)
